highlights: new bike with 2-3 locks, graduation at XPUB & all the stuff happening around it
hey there,
how are you doing? Cannot believe it’s been 1 whole month since the last letter i wrote to you, it’s crazy how time flies when it’s sunny and nice outside & you’re preparing for graduation. >◡<
Since it’s my grad month, i will definitely dedicate this letter to this - it’s the moment to celebrate all of our achievements and learnings during the last 2 years at XPUB [the master’s programme in Fine Art and Media Design: Experimental Publishing at the Piet Zwart Institute]. Of course, my feelings at the end of this journey are mixed [happy, relieved, sad and nostalgic], but i kinda feel like Ted Lasso in “So Long, Farewell”, since my xpub family here really is that kindhearted and amazing… However, i am not leaving Rotterdam for good - will try to balance travelling between the Netherlands, Cyprus and Bulgaria during the next year, because there are still some things we need to try/do here.
Ok, let’s dive into grad show stuff! Plus, if you’re passing by Rotterdam later this month, pls let me know <3
Hugs,
ål // ≧◉◡◉≦

[grad show warming up: two radio shows on Radio Worm]
Gersande Schellinx and i are hosting two radio shows later this month. That would be a great opportunity for anyone to have a sneak peek at our grad projects and the two years at XPUB. Tune in, here our invitation:
Across two evenings XPUB (the Experimental Publishing master course at the Piet Zwart Institute) will share their work and research through interviews. Interviews here are interpreted in different ways by each student - they will structure dialogues, discussions and bubbles of thought, mixed with infomercials and sonic material that shares more of our practices. The radio shows are a teaser to invite you to our following graduation show with an opening at Slash Gallery (Worm) on the 29th of June at 6 pm. They are hosted by Ål Nik (Alexandra Nikolova) and Gersande Schellinx.

Graduating students of the Experimental Publishing Master (XPUB), The Piet Zwart Institute, invite you to Making Things Bubblic in Slash Gallery, Rotterdam.
A glimpse of a moment. We look at where it comes from, this bubble.
Thinking about bubbles helps to reimagine publishing. When we switch the first letter of public, publishing and publication, something awkward happens that initiates a thought process. A small detail, a single letter, makes unfamiliar and curious again, what we have learned to take for granted.
Making Things Bubblic is, amongst other things, a graduation shop and, a space to continue conversations on how we sell and distribute published matter as independent makers. We are thinking about how to send out our bubbles.
Our bubblishing has happened underwater, throughout the past two years of collective study we have experimented with, and developed our works. This is a bubbling of our experience, an intimate and collective process that now travels up and out to an external public.
a bubble is fragile and temporary
a bubble is created with care and consciousness
or it emerges in a happy accident
a bubble is an imaginary, intimate space
a bubble pops and spreads without a trace
We are // 🫧 Ål Nik (Alexandra Nikolova), Chaeyoung Kim, Emma Prato, Erica Gargaglione, Francesco Luzzana, Gersande Schellinx, Jian Haake, Kimberley Cosmilla, Miriam Schöb, Mitsa Chaida and Supisara Burapachaisri. 🫧

[Room for Sound closing event]
Another beautiful project is coming to an end - during this academic year i was coordinating the sound art residency at Willem de Kooning Academy and its future life is still quite unsure [the reason is that the academy had major budget cuts and mismanagement, so they’re not handling this whole situation flawlessly… You can learn more about the situation here].
However, Naomi Jansen and i would like to celebrate our work at Room for Sound & all the residents during the last 2+ years. Thus, we’re organising this little hop-on event:
